Join us as we celebrate ‘Nowruz’ with a joyful evening of live music, dance, traditional sweets and decorations.
Nowruz is an ancient festival marking the first day of spring and the renewal of nature. It promotes values of peace and solidarity between generations and within families as well as reconciliation and neighbourliness, thus building bridges across cultural diversity while fostering friendship and community across differences. We are excited to be hosting this event and look forward to welcoming you.
This is an event for those who celebrate Nowruz every year, and those who are reading about it here for the first time. This is a mixed event for families with children, for men and women. The event will be in English and Persian/Dari (with translation). Everyone is welcome – please book your place/s in advance for catering purposes. Traditional dress is warmly welcomed.

Hashmat Sarvari
Hashmat is freelancing with People of the Earth, a project of St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace. Born in Afghanistan, Hashmat previously worked as a TV political anchor for Noor TV in Afghanistan. He later continued his work as the media and strategic communications officer at the Afghanistan Embassy in London. He holds an MA in Peace-Building and Reconciliation from the University of Winchester. Currently, he is pursuing his second MA in Politics and International Relations in the UK.
Jo Winsloe Slater
Jo is Project Manager of People of the Earth at St Ethelburga’s, a strand of work that seeks to build relationships between refugees and asylum seekers, and local people, through events, workshops and humanising narratives. She has a background in managing projects in the fields of interfaith, social justice and social care in the non-governmental sector.
