Join us on a journey beyond time (mahakaal) for a celebration of Shiva and Shakti through dance and music.

We are delighted to be collaborating with Mukul and Ghetto Tigers for this month’s Listen to the World.

SHIVA AND SHAKTI

'We live in a world filled with turmoil, and it is often this very turmoil that drives us towards change, transformation, and ultimately resolution and calm. In Hindu cosmology, Shakti represents turmoil, while Shiva embodies the calm that follows.

In India, Shakti in her turbulent form is worshipped as a fierce goddess, yet she is revered with affection and joy. Shiva, her consort, is also venerated, as it is widely understood that turmoil and peace are deeply interconnected. Their story reminds us that turmoil is not inherently negative. Rather, it is a vital catalyst for transformation—something to be honoured, respected, and welcomed.

This journey—from chaos to serenity—is beautifully represented in mythology by the sacred union of Shiva and Shakti. When we learn to embrace turmoil as much as we cherish its absence, life’s challenges become more manageable. This, at its core, is the profound message of Shiva and Shakti.'

Voice, dance, and percussion are all traditionally used to celebrate Shiva and Shakti and in tonight’s performance, the dance of Shakti and Shiva will be accompanied by music and song, by renowned vocalist Marina Ahmad.
