What better way than a meal to make friends of those who were strangers?  Come and learn how to cook delicious traditional dishes with the wonderful chefs from Migrateful!  Migrateful is a social enterprise that empowers and celebrates refugees and vulnerable migrants on their journey to integration by supporting them to run their own cookery classes. We are excited to be welcoming Migrateful chefs at St Ethelburga’s as part of our Refugee Allies project.

Read on to find out more about the classes, and tickets.

What happens at a cooking class?

Migrateful events offer a family style cookery class where you collectively prepare four dishes. Your chef will divide the class into groups with each one responsible for creating one of the dishes. You are also free to move around during the class to learn about the other dishes.  Your chef will recap each of the dishes throughout the evening and at the end of the class so that everyone can learn about all of the dishes. You will also be emailed the recipes after the class.

Tickets: £43.71 – Alongside the teaching, the price covers the cost of ingredients and a donation to support the innovative work of Migrateful.  Ticket links below.  Book soon to avoid disappointment!

A message from Chef Lina:

“My name is Lina from Syria, mother of three children. I came to the UK as a refugee in 2017 to escape the war in my country to protect my children and secure them a better future. From childhood I loved craftwork, I learned painting, sewing and knitting wool.

I learned the art of cooking from the age of fourteen. I was standing next to my grandmother and my mother and noticing how they cook, and then, as I helped my mother with the cooking, it became my favourite hobby. I spend endless hours cooking. I love it. I am obsessed with the smell of delicious food. If you know anything about Syrian food you know you are in for a treat.”

About Migrateful

Migrateful helps refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants on their journey to employment and independence and promotes integration. It runs cookery classes led by migrant chefs struggling to integrate and access employment due to legal and linguistic barriers. The cookery classes provide ideal conditions not just for learning English and building confidence, but also for promoting contact and cultural exchange with the wider community.
