world music About Open Rehearsal Open Rehearsal aims to open doors, engage audiences, encourage participation, learning and to promote London's phenomenal cultural offer. As part of this initiative, St Ethelburga's will host Afro-Cuban Spiritual Music with 'London Lucumi Choir' Date of event 27th Sept 2008/ Workshop 4 - 5 pm (to be confirmed) / Performance 7.30 - 9.30pm Workshop and performance with the London Lucumi Choir, led by beautiful and charismatic voice of Grammy award - nominee, Martha Galarraga; with Afro-Cuban percussionist, Dave Pattman and choir leader, Daniela Rosselson. the London Lucumi Choir consists of 15 singers and drummers who together deliver a dynamic musical experience. Brief description of event Join Martha Galarraga, with percussionists and 15 singers, in creating a unique 'tambor' - asynamic Afro-Cuban spiritual ceremony of chanting, drumming and dance. The London Lucumi Choir performs ncient rhythmsand songs that were born in west Africa and have flourished in Cuba since the erly years of slavery. the songs honour Orishs - or-spirits-in the Yoruba. Arara and Palo traditions. Accompanied by live Bata drtums nd Afro-Cuban percussions Martha Galarraga is a highly acclained Afro-Cuban singer and dancer and a leading figure in Afro-Cuban culture based in Europe. |
