Zoroastrian
Zarathushtra declared “Listen with your ears to the best things. Reflect with a clear mind – man by man for himself – upon the two choices of decision…and choose good.. ” (Yasna 30.2.) But one may ask- what is good?
Our Ashém Váhu prayer affirms: Good is best – good for the sake of goodness, note: it does not have the word better for the word better is comparative and therefore divides, and where there is division there is conflict It is said in many traditions that God created the heavens and the earth – and saw that it was good, ever since then man has been trying to make it better Let us be satisfied with good in each other- for good is the best Yasna (prayer) 30.2 - As translated by Professor Insler in The Gathas of Zarathushtra, (Brill 1975). |
