St Ethelburga's

Centre for Reconciliation and Peace

faith is a source of conflict... and a resource for transforming conflict

prayer

St Ethelburga's is a Christian foundation with a mission of radical hospitality towards people of other faith traditions.

It no longer has a parish or a priest, but our Christian heritage remains alive with regular meditation and occasional services.

services

Thurs 11 October 6.00pm
The Rodwell Sermon on St Ethelburga's Day
Given by Canon Andrew Wingate

In 1861 the first reliable version of the Qur'an in English was made by John Medows Rodwell, the Rector of St Ethelburga's. This year Canon Andrew Wingate, Director of the St Philips Centre for Study and Engagement in a Multi-faith Society, Leicester, and a Chaplain to the Queen, will give. The Rodwell Sermon is part of a service of Choral Evensong with music of Rodwell's time.

Sun 11 November 6.00 - 8.00pm
Vigil of Remembrance
Led by Simon Keyes and Helen Gilbert

A powerful ritual to remember the dead of the two world wars and other conflicts, and consider our own death. Using music, silence, darkness and light.

Sun 2 December 6.00 - 8.00pm
Advent Liturgy with Contemplative Fire
Led by Rev Philip Roderick

Have you been disillusioned or alienated by your experience of religion? Do you sense that there might be a spiritual vibrancy at the core of the Christian path? We welcome Rev Philip Roderick to lead us in contemplative communion, with music and chant, and using body prayer and simple movement as part of a reflective prayer process that seeks to integrate creative arts, wisdom and worship.

People of all faiths and none are most welcome to attend and participate in our services.

PRayer for and End to violence

God of Life

Every act of violence
between myself and another,
destroys a part of your creation.

Stir in my heart
a renewed sense of reverence
for all life.

Give me the vision to recognise your spirit
in every human being,
however they behave towards me.

Make possible the impossible
by cultivating in me
the fertile seed of healing love.

May I play my part
in breaking the cycle of violence
by realising that
peace begins with me.
