St Ethelburga's

Centre for Reconciliation and Peace

faith is a source of conflict... and a resource for transforming conflict

exploring religious difference

Friction and conflicts can occur on the interface between and within faiths. This can raise conflicting notions of identity and sometimes can lead to violence and the persecution of religious minorities.

Our aim is to develop practical, constructive approaches which enable people to expore the differences between the faith traditions in a way that enables them to share the space with others who think and believe differently.

These projects include:

The Tent

Our remarkable meeting space, dedicated to the meeting of faiths, with wide-ranging programme of public discussions, devotional gatherings and meditation.

Understanding Islam

A range of training programmes designed to help non-Muslims learn the basics about Islam delivered by Dr Chris Hewer.

Integration: A Multi-faith Approach (IAMA)

Civic education training for newly arrived religious leaders delivered in a multi-faith setting by the St Ethelburga's team.

Scriptural Reasoning

A practical new approach to inter-faith dialogue for Christians, Jews and Muslims.

Faith and citizenship training (FACT)

A training programme where scriptural study meets community organising.
