Special Event: Narratives of Hope

13 - 15 Nov

A unique gathering to explore the many and varied ways that personal narrative and traditional storytelling can be used to build bridges and to make peace. Aimed at peace-workers, NGOs, interfaith groups, community development workers and educators - those using narrative and story in their work and those new to it.


In collaboration with: The Forgiveness Project and The Society for Storytelling.


Other contributors include: Glencree Centre(Ireland); The Foundation for Peace (Warrington); The School of Storytelling (Emerson College); Chi Creations; Hereford Mediation; The Global Oneness Project ; State of the Heart Storytelling; and many others.


Thurs 13 Nov 7pm
A Middle Eastern welcome
A welcoming night of Middle Eastern Tales with music, song, prayer, food, humour and open-fl oor story sharing.

Fri 14 Nov 9am-5pm
Personal narrative
A day of listening circles, talks and workshops exploring two main themes: the healing power of personal story telling and truth sharing in recovery from conflict and division; and innovative uses of story in building bridges across boundaries of faith, culture and identity.

Fri 14 Nov 7pm-9.30pm
Video narrative
An evening film showing followed by dialogue and discussion exploring the power of contemporary video narrative.

Sat 15 Nov 10am-5pm
Traditional storytelling
A festival of performances, workshops and open floor story-sharing. An opportunity to expand your understanding of the role and versatility of traditional storytelling as a tool for bringing people together in new ways, building relationships and healing communities.

Workshops include:
Stories of forgiveness ~ Story, identity and culture ~ Story and truth telling in recovery from violence and conflict ~ Reviving the role of the griot in African diasporan communities ~ Basic storytelling skills ~ Conflict and the storytelling mind ~ Humanity and the earth: A new collective story?

Prices: Whole conference: £95; Friday only - £55, Saturday only £45, Thurs eve only £12.
